From Aesops Fables The Hawk and the Farmer A Prudent farmer had spread a net over his corn field to catch the crows who liked to dig up his newly planted seeds. One day a hawk, pursuing a pigeon, flew so swiftly over the farmers cornfield that before he knew it he found himself caught in the snare The farmer, observing the hawk struggling in the net, went over to the captured bird of prey This is all a mistake, said the hawk, as the farmer approached. I was just chasing a pigeon, and the wretched bird flew right over your field. I was not going to do a bit of harm to you, believe me, sir! That may be, replied the farmer, But unless you can tell me just what harm the pigeon had done to you, Im afraid Im going to have to wring your neck In Amazing Grace The Song speaks of us passing through many Dangers, Toils and Snares These are traps set by the Wiles of the Devil to confuse us. If we get caught in one of these traps while chasing souls, and we cannot explain what harm that which we chase after was doing to us, then the farmer will make us pay. Remember, The Farmer is God, For the Earth is His Field, And therefore when Chasing souls, The Earth is the Cornfield, and God is the Farmer who caught the hawk.
