From *An Inquiry into the Nature and Causes of the Wealth of Nations* by Adam Smith: It is not from the benevolence of the butcher, the brewer, or the baker that we expect our dinner, but from their regard to their own interest. We address ourselves, not to their humanity, but to their self-love, and never talk to them of our own necessities, but of their advantages. From *The Gospel According to St. Matthew* :Then one of them, which was a lawyer, asked him a question, tempting him, and saying, Master, which is the great commandment in the law? Jesus said unto him, Thou shalt love the Lord thy God with all thy heart, and with all thy soul, and with all thy mind. This is the first and great commandment. And the second is like unto it, Thou shalt love thy neighbour as thyself. On these two commandments hang all the law and the prophets. So, from Adam Smith, the grandfather of free-market Capitalism we have self love. From Jesus we have the love of our neighbor. The question is: Is Capitalism Christian?
