In soccer this week another belter awaits, with points soon to translate into prizes through the divisions in England, Scotland and far beyond. In the Barclays Premier League, the crunch London derby between Chelsea and Arsenal at Stamford Bridge will unquestionably take centre stage, but what else is happening, both at home and abroad. The Clasico is, usually without fail, the match that determines the destination of the Spanish league title and this one will be no exception. It is arguably the most passionate rivalry in world football, many games bring a country to a standstill, but this one seems to have the whole world at the gates, straining to find out the score. No match in club football has such a splendid concentration of world class footballers and on Sunday night, the latest instalment at the Bernabeu will boast the most stellar and expensive collection of players ever. Messi, Cristiano Ronaldo, Neymar, Gareth Bale... need I say more. All live at Ma Nolan’s from 9pm Relief, blessed relief, for David Moyes and Manchester United as they overturned a two-goal deficit to beat Olympiacos on Wednesday and reach the quarter-finals of the Champions League. Moyes was reluctant to herald the thrilling comeback as a turning point afterwards and that’s perhaps because he is aware of the upcoming fixture list and the first of those is West Ham on Saturday at 6:30pm as a pre cursor to the all Manchester Derby next Tuesday when United and City pitch up against each other in a battle of battles! Saturday’s starter game is the big one, its where the heavyweights square off in Wenger’s 1000th gunners game where nearly 18 years since succeeding Bruce Rioch the Frenchman notches up the milestone in a huge match at the top against what is an astonishing home record for Jose Murinho. The game kicks off at 1:45pm in all Ma Nolan’s Last week was a momentous week in Irish rugby as the men in green secured a second Six Nations title in five years. In 2009, Irish provinces went on to dominate European club rugby too with Leinster winning the Heineken Cup, and Munster winning the Pro12. A repeat of that treble is most certainly the goal for the IRFU again this season, and with Leinster, Munster and Ulster the top three teams in the Pro12 table at present, the trio are all on course to contest the play-offs of that competition. It all kicks off Friday, when Leinster and Ulster will bid to keep their title bids alive with victories over Zebre and Edinburgh respectively and on Saturday Munster will take on Treviso. Again all these games plus this week’s deciders in the French Top 14 will be shown live at Ma Nolan’s. Even though there is plenty of action in the National Leagues in Ireland this weekend we will only have one live game shown thanks to TG4 and it’s the south eastern battle of landlords as Kilkenny and next door neighbours Waterford battle it out on Sunday at 2:30pm
