From Kiss The Cook: NOTES ABOUT PASS IT ON FRIDAY: Most of you - TopicsExpress

From Kiss The Cook: NOTES ABOUT PASS IT ON FRIDAY: Most of you are already aware of the wreck last week involving three boys here in our community. These best friends were coming home from what was a normal night fishing, only to have their lives changed forever. Two of them, Jakob and Brian, fortunately had wounds that put them in the hospital but allowed them to be released. Their friend, Blake Hampton, was not as fortunate. 16-year old Blake suffered severe head trauma, a broken leg, broken pelvis, 8 broken ribs, a broken back, skull fractures, and a collapsed lung. He has been in critical care at the Med in Memphis since the early morning hours following this wreck on April 6, and every day continues to fight for his life. The road to recovery ahead is long and full of struggle and pain for both Blake and his family. Blake’s buddies (including my own son) have all grieved over this accident and the condition of their good friend. It is hard to watch their worry and hard to imagine what Blake’s family is going through right now. Last week as I was driving my son and his friends back home from their visit to see Blake’s family, one of them said, “You know guys, this could have been any of us.” Such a simple statement, yet it just rings out in my head. The moment we put our children in vehicles, we immediately lose some ability to control what might happen to them on something even as normal as a drive home from a fishing trip or a night out at the movies. We also lose our ability to “fix” things like we’ve always found ourselves doing for them. Pain and suffering are elements out of our control, and as Blake goes through this journey, his family feels quite helpless. Beyond their prayers and sitting at his bedside, this one is not in their control. This Friday, we will be offering funds from Pass it On Friday to the family of Blake Hampton. Blake’s mother Christi and his father Chris will continue to be at his side, just as they have been, and each day will be full of ups and downs as they continue to wait and watch. Our efforts with PIOF are to help them in some small way, so that maybe the thought of finances won’t be something that plagues them during time they should be focused on their child. Because of my son and his friends, this situation is so heartbreaking and close to us all right now. But were it not, we would still be asking the same…. Please help us help this family as we PASS IT ON this Friday for Blake Hampton. On Friday, a percentage of our lunch proceeds at Kiss the Cook will go to PIOF, as well as the full contents of the 100% jar on the counter. Our friends at Alvin Taylor’s Flowers, Something Sweet, Glen Sain Ford, and Revolution Clothing Co. will be auctioning off items on their facebook pages beginning Friday morning. If you aren’t able to help financially, we ask that you help by continuing the chain of prayer that is already circulating for Blake and his family. We also ask that you be in prayer for his friends who were with him that night, Brian Ford and Jakob Sullinger. Though their physical wounds were minimal, their hearts are shattered right now as they wait for conditions to turn for the better for their best friend.
