The Blue Hens, who snapped a three-game losing streak, picked up their first road win of the season while improving to 2-13 overall and 1-3 in league play. The Cougars, the only winless team in the conference, dropped their eighth consecutive game as they dropped to 5-12 overall and 0-4 in the CAA. Anderson, who reached double figures for the eighth straight contest, went 5 of 7 from three-point range to lead four Blue Hens in double figures. Kory Holden contributed 14 points and went 8 of 10 from the foul line, Cazmon Hayes contributed 12 points and a career-high seven rebounds, and Marvin King-Davis finished with 10 points. Eric Carter came off the bench to led UD with eight boards, establishing a career-high. After committing 20 turnovers during Thursday’s loss at UNCW the Blue Hens turned the ball over just three times vs. the Cougars, the fewest since also committing three against Northeastern on Jan. 19, 2011. Joe Chealey led Charleston with 17 points, while Canyon Berry added 13 and Donovan Gilmore contributed 12. “One of the biggest things about this win is the growth of this team,” said Blue Hen head coach Monté Ross. “Charleston pressured us late in the game, and I’m so proud of the way our guys responded. Everybody stepped up and made big plays down the stretch. I can’t say enough about these guys; all year there has been no carryover from the previous game. Eric (Carter) was tremendous grabbing some big rebounds for us, while Kyle (Anderson) is a calming influence and hit some big shots.” Delaware trailed 22-20 late in a tight first half, before going on a seven-point run to regain the lead. Chealey ended the spurt with a three-pointer for the Cougars, before Holden buried a contested jumper from the right corner to give UD a 29-25 halftime advantage. After Charleston surged ahead early in the second half, Delaware scored nine consecutive points to go in front 43-35 with 12:06 left and led the rest of the way. The Cougars pulled within 54-51 at the 2:03 mark, but Holden found King-Davis for a dunk and then hit two free throws to make it a seven-point game. Charleston twice closed within two, the second time at 60-58 with 19 seconds on the clock, but Hayes and Chivarsky Corbett each drained a pair of free throws to put the game away. Delaware opens a three-game homestand on Wednesday when the Blue Hens host Towson at 7 p.m. at the Bob Carpenter Center.
