From our message inbox this morning: I woke up this morning and listened to some of NZs so-called media failing to report on the seriousness of what is taking place under our noses (mass surveillance, the stealthy ushering in of a new era of fascism under the auspices of an American empire, etc...) I heard the evidence provided by the a world hero of human justice called into question by pandering journalists. I heard the leader of the opposition failing to call for John Keys resignation, himself clearly afraid of what he will be required to do should he become prime minister. I heard people sidelining the incredibly important point Julian Assange was trying to make about the extra-governmental nature of encroaching fascism, and sidelining the context given by Bob Amsterdam relating to how this is all tied up with TPPA - the economic nature of a lot of this spying... I heard all this summed up as a sideshow and extraneous issues. This all left me feeling rather depressed. So I telephoned the Prime Minsters office and called for his resignation. I telephoned my local National Party candidate and left him a message urging him to tell me what he would do from within the National Party - would he call for the Prime Ministers resignation, or merely toe the party line? I will contact the labour leader and ask him why he is being so weak on this. I will be challenging everybody who uses racist and fat-phobic epithets against Kim Dotcom, who no matter what you may think of him is clearly also a victim of spying. Im sure none of this will do any good, unless.... Unless EVERYBODY who has woken up feeling depressed, angry and worried about the future does similar things, then maybe we can generate some meaningful protest, because the media is clearly not interested in doing its job any more (even the international media understands this better), and so it is up to us, the citizens of New Zealand, to act as journalists instead. If you have time have a read of this article from 2007, about how history repeats. Note step number 4: set up an internal surveillance system. Think about some of the other steps. Watch some of Naomi Wolfs videos. Please everybody, its time to wake up! Peace and Love to you all. (yes I know its an article about America, but thats kind of the point really - those who were listening to what Bob Amsterdam was saying (instead of dismissing him out of hand) will have heard about the annexation of nations legislative capacities by the United States, and TPPA is the start of this...) theguardian/world/2007/apr/24/usament
