From our working holiday volunteering with leopards, elephants and cheetahs in Namibia, Africa (biosphere-expeditions.org/namibia) Well, our first group has been extremely busy their first week. Often true of the first expedition group on any project, there are many tasks that need to be done at the start of the year’s work. Here in Namibia one of our initial tasks was to set out our camera traps, ten of which are now in operation in the field. We’ve even collected some images already (they are being sorted at the other end of the table as I typed so expect to see some of them in a future edition of the diary). This week we also set up a fourth box trap right behind the lodge. For those of you that were with us last year, it’s not at the same spot where we caught L055. It’s set up a short walk from the lodge at the waterhole - not the one the lodge overlooks, but rather the other one we never visited last year because it was dry. Now it is full (see picture) and Vera found a choice spot for the trap. Now we wait to see if the leopards agree. Team 1 surprised Vera and I by saying they did not want a day off on Saturday, which is usually our rest day. Everyone worked hard for either a full or half day. Heinz and Sebastian checked all the box traps (empty), Eva, Polly, Paula, Eric and Christine walked Tracks and Scats Route #11 while Marco and Simona changed SD cards in the camera traps up at Bergposten. ============================== Biosphere Expeditions diaries/blogs/pictures available on biosphereexpeditions.wordpress/ | facebook/biosphere.expeditions1 | https://plus.google/103347005009999707934/posts.
