From the 50s to the turn of century, there were AT LEAST 6 occassions where the Americans or Soviet/Russians thought they were under attack from one another. Thats right, this happened even after the end of the cold war. During these occassions, Soviet/Russian or American leaders came just this close to sending their entire nuclear arsenal against the other, but were dissuaded in the nick of time by someone being just a bit more observant. However, if the first reaction to we might be under attack is DESTROY HUMANITY! you have got to wonder HOW are we still here?
