From the Ateneo Alumni Association: Message to all our fellow Ateneans in the Senate, Congress and Executive Branches of Government-- We ask that you have no fear investigating your colleagues. The Ateneo Spirit leads us to tread where few dare. Therefore, embrace your mission of being a transforming element of our society — to be the bearer of the light (Lux in Domino) in confusing times. We will be behind you, rallying relentlessly this cause, and helping ward off the attacks stemming from organized crime at the highest level of government. For those guilty, we ask that you resign from public office with dignity and integrity. This takes tremendous courage. The end of a government career does not mean the end of your life. There is still hope for you. Take solace in the Suscipe of our St. Ignatius of Loyola: Take Lord, and receive all my liberty, my memory, my understanding, and my entire will, all that I have and possess. Thou hast given all to me. To Thee, O lord, I return it. All is Thine, dispose of it wholly according to Thy will. Give me Thy love and thy grace, for this is sufficient for me. Lastly, to His Excellency, President Benigno S. Aquino, III on his statement of abolishing the PDAF but replacing it with another name with another set of rules, we demand that you simply abolish this privilege of lawmakers and restrain presidential prerogatives as well in the discretionary disbursement of funds. As your bosses, we ask that the Department of Budget and Management and the Commission on Audit also be investigated starting the year 2000 andl let the axe fall where they may. This includes the punishment of all legislators , without fear or favor, who have been caught in the web We stand behind you against those who believe a pork barrel is essential to governance, who threaten chaos, who try to hold you hostage if you do not allow them to continue raiding the coffers built from the many and small indirect taxes from the poor and the compulsory withholding taxes of the middle class. We continue to dream of an egalitarian society. With other sectors of society, we continue to seek justice, peace, and forge a better democratic nation.
