Ft Hood is a community of over 297,000 soldiers, family members and retirees. Fort Hood occupies 335 square miles of Bell and Coryell Counties. By comparison Tampa, FL has a population of 347,000, St Petersburg is 246,000. Tampa is 170 Sq miles. Now consider the Army is a microcosm of the civilian population. There have been two mass shootings at Ft Hood in 5 years. Tampa had nearly 100 murders between 2009-2012. The reason for this post is a talking head on the news insinuating our military bases are unsafe.
