Fukushima Tour - just spent ten amazing days traveling through Fukushima translating for journalism students and teachers from San Francisco State, my alma mater. We visited briefly the evacuation zones, met people in temporary housing, volunteered to clean out overgrowth, ate peaches, danced at onsen spas and learned how confusion and misinformation killed as many as tsunami, Earthquake and radiation. All fruit and rice in the prefecture is checked for shipment, even that far from the effected zones. Wonderful people, beautiful country. I will go back. First picture is volunteering. Second is Toyoma Jr High school near Iwaki. Final is the narrow road to safe haven that saved all the Toyoma jr high students while more than 250 people died in the adjacent area. We encountered much sadness and much wonderful living spirit.
