G-Fest 2014 - Artist Alley Guests 1 - Alex Merdich Alex Merdich is a freelance artist with a BFA focused in Studio Art and Technology. His sculptures were awarded Best Scratch Built at G-Fest XVII, XVIII, and XIX. He also designed and created the fan-made video game Godzilla: Daikaiju Battle Royale. awmstudioproductions 2 - Brandon Santiago Brandon Santiago is a comic book artist that pencils, inks, and colors for a local independent company called Rotten Apple Studios. He has worked on such titles as The Kid, PSA, My Life, and Daark. In relation to Godzilla, he has made prints of rather iconic kaiju fights reimagined, original blackboard pieces, and sketch cards featuring mini versions of the monsters. Brandon is also at work on an anime-style Godzilla fan film that is currently in development and entitled “Godzilla Forever”. 3 - Brandon Phillips/Jack Armstrong Kaiju Assault is the working collaboration of Jack Armstrong and Brandon Phillips. Starting from a very basic turn based, coin flip card game, we made a hobby. TEN years later the game has evolved into a very in-depth card game that is never played the same way twice….even if you have the same cards. Kaiju Assault pits all of your favorite monsters into one MONSTEROUS BEAT DOWN. Taking the three major generations (spanning sixty years!) of TOKUSATSU and placing it into one cohesive BRAWLER of a card game. He is the writer and artist on the sci-fi superhero adventure series The Adventures of Nikki Harris the Cybermation Witch as well as the OGN series Dub Trub. His favorite monster movies are Terror of Mechagodzilla and Gorgo. 5 - Chris Martinez Chris Martinez is a Chicago based freelance illustrator and guitarist for horror surf band The Alder Kings. Since attending the Joe Kubert School has worked on indy films, comics and extensively in the RPG field. He has also illustrated album covers and merchandise for a variety of bands. thechristophermartinez thealderkings 6 - Christopher Ness Christopher Ness is an art educator and artist. He paints in acrylic on 18 x 36 canvases, mimicking the ratio of widescreen cinema. His subject matter are scenes of great cinematography, iconic characters and scenes. look for him at Cinema Art by Ness 7 - Dennis Roth Born in Montana, raised in South Dakota, and currently living in the flatlands of Kansas. After graduating with two degrees in paleontology, he’s transformed his knowledge of extinct anatomy to producing art as a freelance studios. Giving him an excuse to draw monsters in dynamic fight sequences, and travel around: dr-studios.deviantart 8 - Frank Parr Well known in the independent comic world for his work with Lightning Comics, Illusion Studios and his own Newbreed Comix, inker Frank Parr now moves on to Lead Illustrator at Dragonfyre Studios with the release of the Irokus: Mirror Image graphic novel, as well as, his Kaiju prints. Graduating from the Art Institute of Atlanta with a BFA in Media Arts and Animation, Jae does freelance illustration and works as a Production Assistant and Producer at Losterdance productions helping build and paint miniature sets for various projects. His first love will always be Godzilla. 10 - James Biggie James Biggie is a graphic designer and art director with over eight years of ad agency experience. James has done covers for IDWs GI: JOE ongoing series, GI JOE: SPECIAL MISSIONS and JUDGE DREDD. He is also writer and co-creator of ROBOT GOD AKAMATSU, a comic book valentine to daikaiju films and the super robot genre of the 1970 and early 1980s. Robot God Akamatsu is now available as a graphic novel from Zetabella Publishing. Originally getting his first published works in the early issues of G-FAN in the mid-90s, Zornow Has been working in comics, Illustration, Album cover illustration and T-shirt designs since 2005. Currently Zornow is working on GODZILLA;RULERS OF EARTH for IDW as a cover artist and fill-in Interior artist. As well as illustrating the current zombie/Vietnam war horror comic ’68 from Image comics. Additionally hes discussed Daikaiju on his podcast Nerdometrics and led panels at comic conventions on Godzilla. 14 - Larry Quach Larry Quach is a concept artist from the Los Angeles area that has worked in the entertainment industry and has done work for companies such as Warner Bros, Disney, LucasArts, Rhythm and Hues, and many others. You can find his work at LarryQuachArt and larryquach.blogspot 15 - Linda Rizzo Linda - alternately known by her nom-de-geek Bluella DeVille - is a New York City dilettante and divides her time between photography (kaiju), music (garage/punk DJ) and design (clothes for people with more money than her). This is her first appearance in G-Fests Artists Alley. kaijunyc/ 16 - Luke Stelmaszek has enjoyed watching and drawing dinosaurs, Godzilla and other Daikaiju ever since he was little. He attended duCret School of Art where he received a commercial art certificate for both graphic design and illustration. Among Luke’s published works are from the card game “Legends of the 5 Rings” as well as numerous awards at several East Coast conventions and art shows. He also providing interiors for the first issue of Godzilla: Legends, and designed the titular monster for Jeremy Robinsons Project Nemesis paperback novels. Matt has also worked on numerous Transformers titles, and kicked off 2013 with the crossover one-shot, Mars Attacks The Transformers. In addition, Matt aided in the Mars Attacks revival by helping to design the giant insect monsters utilized by the Martians for their invasion. Matt is currently the lead interior and cover artist for the ongoing series Godzilla: Rulers of Earth, and is the art director for the upcoming videogame Colossal Kaiju Combat. 19 - Ray Fromme I have been a fan of giant monsters and robots since I was a kid, and I see them as inspiration for a growing career. At this time, Im currently attending college for a Bachelors degree in Graphic Design. Ive been part of G-Fests Artist Alley since the 2010 convention, and the other artists have not only become role models for me to look up to, but people Ive come to call friends. Because of them and others who appreciate my art, I hope to reach places even higher. Hes been drawing Godzilla and his cohorts since the tender age of six, and still believes monsters are the best thing since sliced bread. Hopes to complete his kaiju magnum opus, someday. As That Godzilla Guy, his Art Appreciation Through Godzillafication explores the world through the eyes of a kaiju. Sitting in front of the TV watching monster movies and cartoons was where he spent most of his days. That led to comic books, video games, RPG’s, and anime. He has been an illustrator since he was a young child and is only now reaching into the professional world. His first published work was in the recently released SOLESTAR…a graphic novel raising awareness for the Brain Aneurysm Foundation. He is currently the art director for THE GREAT BIG ADVENTURE (a year-long, interactive experience for kids) creating its look’, as well as co-creating the accompanying original comic book. Hes the lead CAD operator at the largest private O&P facility in Illinois, joining them in 2008, having done prototyping on the DARPA hand with Dr. Weir at NUREC during his residency, and a 3D print consultant for NUPOC. He has been in the rapid prototyping/3D print arena for 30 years, and in that time has been department head of several large prototype service bureaus, as well as having co-founded an AM service bureau. Previously, Tom was the department head of silicone molding/urethane casting for several mid west prototyping companies, focusing on process improvement/standardization, and helped in the development of a proprietary urethane vacuum/pressure casting system. Tom’s first experience with AM was at Prototype Express, one of the first companies to pioneer the use of stereolithography, the first commercially available AM technology. His continuous search for innovative applications of AM technologies has included consumer and commercial product prototyping , prosthetic/orthotic applications, as well as continuing his own pursuits of 3D digital sculpting/fine art. 25 - Sara Sowles Sara Sowles is a painter, comic book colorist, and designer. She graduated from Kendall College of Art and Design in 2007 with a BFA in illustration. Sara owns Killustration Studios LLC, a professional art business, with her husband Tyler. She has much experience in deadline oriented jobs including newspaper, feature film, and comic industries. killustrationstudios 26 - Tyler Sowles Tyler Sowles is a painter, illustrator and comic book artist. He graduated from Kendall College of Art and Design in 2008 with a BFA in illustration. Tyler owns Killustration Studios LLC, a professional art business, with his wife Sara. He is currently working on 2 trade graphic novels, The Numbered for Arcana Comics and Deadmans Land for actor Barry Duffield. killustrationstudios 27- Barbi Smith Barbi is an 18 year veteran of Self-publishing who cut her teeth with Illusion Studios before Co-founding Dragonfyre Studios in 2005. This talented Writer and Editor has her hands in every aspect of the studio. Barbi heads up the editing and authoring for their DVD Department (Uprising Magazine and Revenge Of The Revenginator), as well as, overseeing the final production of all printed material. angelfire/indie/dragonfyre/home.html 28 - Wayne Smith With Illusion Studios closing its doors after 11 years of publishing, the veteran writer turned his attention to new avenues. After writing two illustrated novels for the newly formed Dragonfyre Studios, Wayne set his sights on adapting Irokus: Mirror Image for Dragonfyre Studios first graphic novel.
