GATEWOOD TO SPEAK OUT ON MICHAEL BROWN KILLING AND OTHERS DURING MESSAGE ON AUGUST 21, AT THE FIRST COSMOPOLITAN CHURCH, LOCATED AT 1515 CROSSLINK ROAD, RALEIGH, NC AT 6:30 P.M. RALEIGH, NC - The Rev. Curtis Everette Gatewood will be the keynote speaker at a non-partisan gala designed to Meet and Greet 2014 Candidates for the Midterm Election in November. The event is scheduled for Thursday, August 21, 2014 at 6:30 p.m. and will be held at the First Cosmopolitan Church located at 1515 Crosslink Road in Raleigh, NC, inside the Willie B. Lewis Multi-Purpose Family Ministry Building. The community affair will occur as a growing string of killings of unarmed Black youth captures the heart and minds of many across the nation. The most recent unarmed youth killed by law enforcement took place near St. Louis, MO, on August 9 as heated protests. looting, and other chaotic forms of unrest have overwhelmed the city during the days following the unfortunate incident. More questions are now placed over the head of law enforcement and laws such as Stand Your Ground and Castle Doctrine Laws. Senseless and highly questionable killings include the aforementioned Michael Brown (age 18, St. Louis, MO, killed 8/9/14 ), Trayvon Martin (age 17, Sanford, FL), Jordan Davis (age 17, Jacksonville, FL), Jonathan Ferrell (age 24, Charlotte, NC), Jesus Huerta (age 17, Durham, NC), Shaqur McNair (age 16, Fayetteville, NC) , and the list goes on. Gatewood, who made a major speech in Raleigh during the aftermath of the Trayvon Martin trial (video attached) and whose recorded conversation with friends earlier that year immediately following the Trayvon Martin trial, went viral and featured on Color of Changes Upworthy, will share what he believes God is saying to youth, parents, law enforcement, elected officials and voters in the aftermath of the Brown shooting. Gatewood said, The prophet Jeremiah speaks to how the people of justice and those who trust and have confidence in the Lord must stand like a tree that is planted by the waters, whose roots will grow out into the stream. We must stand our ground and organize; we must stand our ground and register; we must stand our ground and vote; we must stand our ground until we produce the fruit that will straighten out some crooked laws and wash clean the dirt within our NC General Assembly as well as our law enforcement agencies across the country and until we have a foolproof system in place that terminates and circumvents the employment of trigger-happy racial profilers and thugs with guns and badges. The grassroots community event is sponsored by Ed Jones and Supporters of Southeast Raleigh and hosted by poetess and vocalist Robin S. Mills. The program will also present Activist Geraldine Alshamy, who will speak on crime prevention and the pipeline to prison. .Other talented guests will include vocalist Andrea Cherry, keyboardist Ivy Williams, and DJ Timothy Kemetik Sifford. We must come out and stand like a tree that is planted by the water - we shall not be moved; we shall not be moved until we produce the fruit of justice, the fruit of love, and the fruit of peace in a way that flourishes throughout the roughest sides of Raleigh, our state, and nation - we shall not be moved; come out and begin to stand, Gatewood said.
