GATGERING WISDOM WITH AGE, THE AGED IS THE WISE ONE One society celebrates the aged in various ways. If one grows older, we count it as a blessing from God. The family will do whatever is humanly possible to preserve the life of its members and all this is done with the intent of helping the individual live longer. Economically, the average age at which citizens of a country die is a measure of success. As we advance in age, we gather a lot of wisdom and as such we are expected to exhibit decorum in all we do. The wisdom we have accumulated must be exhibited and guard our our actions and inactions. If it so happens that we experience mental difficulties, we are tempted to run to the elderly for direction. They are expected to be a bank of wisdom. The basic reality of life is that, as one gathers wisdom, his strength fails him gradually. At a very advanced age, he must have seen a lot to the point that given a second chance, most of the errors he committed will absolutely be avoided. He has become the best brain society can expect. I was in the company of an old architect friend of mine, Architect SO Larbi, formerly of KNUST. We had a long chat about his professional development. I realized the emmense knowledge this man has gathered through his years of work. He was full of arxhitectural wisdom. Grant this to a younger professional and the world will hail him but this very neccessity of life resides with an old man, whose strength limits him. The man was very deep. He thought me a simple lesson i will forever remember him for. The wisdom he has currently is what he needed in his youthful age. What he has now is of little relevance to his personal development. If he decides to impart it to the younger folks, which he is doing, how much of it can he do looking at his limitations. If I see a man exhibiting stupidity, all that it implies is that he needs wisdom now but he does not have but he he gets it, he will not need it that much. WHY WILL I CALL ANYONE STUPID, FOR WISDOM COMES TO US IN FULL WHEN WE DO NOT NEED IT MOST.
