GIG REVIEW FROM TODAY FROM BLACK DIAMOND TOURING . Divina Commedia – Sydney Harbour Rhythm Rocks Cruise – Sunday 24/11/13 This was my first harbour cruise experience and I could not have picked a more perfect day, Mother Nature was at her finest and truly highlighted the beauty of Sydney harbour. As I arrived at the wharf a broad church of entertainment lovers had gathered. Parents had bought their kids along and I certainly wasn’t the oldest there! The ship was more or less full and the appearance of the band was keenly awaited. Its just over a year since Divina Commedia burst onto the Australian world fusion scene, and they continue to evolve their sound and show. Divina have come a long way since their humble beginnings playing Sydney’s smaller venues, and the band has maintained and developed an exceptional live show and from the opening section of ‘Conquistador’ they showed just why they are considered Australia’s finest world fusion band. The band made an immediate impact with ‘Time Transition’ before moving on to some of their established favourites including ‘Leonardo’s Cave’, ‘Faith’ and ‘Calm Before The Storm’ – most notably Faith. The majestic journey of sight and sound this new song evokes is truly magical. In a little under an hour we were treated to the best of an impressive repertoire drawing influence from Flamenco, Celtic and Middle Eastern music delivered in the progressive fusion style Divina has become famous for. Not surprisingly, the band was on top of their game, Benny on bass impressed as did Brendan the exceptionally talented young drummer. But out front it was combination of Iggy Yatsenko and Dave Bova who provided the Blistering solos and melodic genius that entranced the crowd. As we cheered for more Divina exploded into the spectacle that is ‘Walls of Jerusalem’ – and WOW what a song. From start to finish this song is a powerhouse of exceptional composition and musicianship, an orgasmic climax to one of the best live shows I have experienced for a long time.
