Gandhi didnt initiate resistance to British rule in India. He entered the independence movement at the perfect time. He was exactly what it needed at that moment, and it was at that moment exactly what he needed. But he would have never achieved his objective if the British werent already beleaguered by the Muslim resistance fighters over the preceding two centuries. The Afghans fought three wars with the British from 1838 to 1919. Thats nearly 100 years! By this time, the British mettle in India had been waxed. Gandhi came onto the scene of an India that had been drenched in blood, both native and British. When occupiers, tyrants and oppressors have lost too much blood to stand, and when those resisting them have dug too many graves for too many children, when all parties have grown weary of war, that is when a peacemaker has a chance. If there be no better time for a Gandhi in the Middle East than now, then I dont know when it will be. It could very well be you. You wont know until you take that stand.
