Gangtok; 18th December 2014: Minister for Department of Health Care, Human Service and Family Welfare, Printing and stationary and Information & Public Relations, Mr. A. K. Ghatani visited Sir Thutob Namgyal Memorial (STNM) hospital and gave strict directives to complete the extension of emergency ward by January 2015 in order to accommodate maximum number of patients. Prioritizing convenience of the patients, Minister further instructed the concerned section of the department to complete the construction of new emergency building and renovation & maintenance of recently vacated administrative section by January 2015 without compromising a bit on quality of the structure and the facilities to be provided. Health Minister Mr. Ghatani also made surprise visit to Emergency ward, surgical unit, medical ward, Burn ward, DOTs center, Isolation ward, GNM Nursing Training Center, accompanied by Director General-cum-Secretary Dr. K. Bhandari, Additioanl Medical Surprintendent STNM Dr. K.B. Gurung, SE (Civil) Mr. C.M. Khatiwara and officials. During his extensive visit in an around hospital, Minister also had conversation with numbers of patients and the staff wherein he took detail information on availability of various facilities being provided by the government along with their necessary requirements . Minister Mr. Ghatani stressed on maintenance of sanitation, availability of medicines, continuous water and power supply. While visiting Nursing Training Center minister also interacted with the GNM and ANM trainees and assured to avail essential facilities in context of their demand. Encouraging trainees towards maintenance of clean surrounding he said, sanitation is prime factor to develop healthy environment for study. So we should keep our educational institute as clean as temple. He also instructed the staff to focus on proper maintenance of available resources. Secretary Dr. Bhandari also informed the trainees about the raise in their monthly Stipend from 2015 onwards.
