Genuine question for freelancers: what can you actually DO if someone doesnt pay an invoice? I did a job in June, did as they asked and filled out an invoice on my last night performing for the whole fee. Waited patiently. After a while I decided to check in and see if there had been any problems cos no money had arrived. Girl who hired me said not sure what happened but theyre gonna pay you, dont worry, only now itll happen over three installments. Sure, I said, thats fine. Finally two installments were paid. Third one? Never arrived. Dozens of polite and patient emails got me nowhere. Finally after they sent me proof theyd paid me the last third, I pointed out theyd typod my account number. Oh. Not my fault problem though surely? Waited another month and a half. Nothing. My question is - is there anything I can actually DO to get my money? That wont cost me more than the money they owe me? $250 doesnt sound like much but if youre a freelancer, its a chunk of rent or a bill and I cant just write it off. They pretty much have me over a barrel and can just not pay me, huh? :(
