Gmail blocked in China as Great Firewall upgraded wantchinatimes/news-subclass-cnt.aspx?id=20141229000119&cid=1101 Chinas internet censorship system, popularly known as the Great Firewall, has instituted a blanket ban of Googles Gmail service, reports Duowei News, a US-based Chinese political news website. Multiple sources are claiming that Googles free email service has been cut off in China from Friday, with traffic to Gmail falling to nearly zero on Saturday. Users said the service was still down as of Monday. The last time Gmail was censored in China was in June, just prior to the 25th anniversary of the Tiananmen Square student protests, when all Google services were affected. On Sunday, netizens wrote on Sina Weibo, Chinas version of Twitter, that unlike previous Gmail bans, where only specific routes to Googles IP were blocked, this time all routes have been cut off. Gmail is said to be often unreliable in China anyway, forcing users who are not accustomed to jumping the Great Firewall using virtual private networks (VPNs) to resort to dedicated mail applications to access their Gmail accounts. However, the current ban has also shut down Googles POP/SMTP internet protocols, meaning Gmail is now inaccessible across web browsers as well as mail applications on PCs and smartphones. Communist Party advocates Christianity with Chinese characteristics wantchinatimes/news-subclass-cnt.aspx?id=20141229000079&cid=1103 The Communist Party of Chinas wariness of Western religions is leading to the development of Christianity with Chinese characteristics, claims Duowei News, a US-based Chinese political news outlet. The allegation comes amid reports of government and semi-government organizations attempting to suppress the celebration of Christmas in China this year. Schools in Wenzhou in east Chinas Zhejiang province were reportedly forbidden from holding any Christmas-related events, according to a notice released by the citys education authorities. The ban covered all high schools, middle schools, elementary schools and kindergartens in the city. The Modern College of Northwest University in Xian in northwest Chinas Shaanxi province also reportedly prohibited celebrations on Christmas Eve, instead requiring that all students remain on campus to engage in the yearly tradition of watching Chinese culture propaganda films such as Confucius-themed documentaries. Banners attacking the spread of kitsch Western holidays and defending traditional Chinese culture were also said to have been put up around the campus. Taiwans Singtex develops fabric with coffee grounds wantchinatimes/news-subclass-cnt.aspx?cid=1102&MainCatID=11&id=20141229000117 aiwanese textile company Singtex Industrial has struck gold by using recycled coffee grounds to create an environmental friendly fabric that offers great functionality, the Global Entrepreneur magazine reported. Set up in 1989, Singtex started out as a bedding manufacturer, but has been transformed following company chairman Jason Chens decision to focus on the development of chemical fiber, in order to build a niche amid growing competition from China and Southeast Asia, where labor costs are much lower, the magazine said. Apart from lingerie maker Victorias Secret, Singtexs list of clients includes Nike, The North Face and Puma, and over 100 other sports or outdoor wear brands. Singtex caught global attention after showcasing its S.Cafe fabric — made from coffee grounds and recycled plastic bottles — in late 2008 at a fair in Germany. The use of coffee grounds was inspired by Chens wife, who noticed that the coffee waste was being used as a deodorizer in the Starbucks kitchen in 2005. She jokingly said to her husband that people who become smelly and sweaty after exercise might apply coffee grounds to their body as a deodorant. Unfortunately Spitznagel isn’t alone. “We are in a gigantic financial asset bubble,” warns Swiss adviser and fund manager Marc Faber. “It could burst any day.” Faber doesn’t hesitate to put the blame squarely on President Obama’s big-government policies and the Federal Reserve’s risky low-rate policies, which, he says, “penalize the income earners, the savers who save, your parents — why should your parents be forced to speculate in stocks and in real estate and everything under the sun?”Billion-dollar investor Warren Buffett is rumored to be preparing for a crash as well. The “Warren Buffett Indicator,” also known as the “Total Market Cap to GDP Ratio,” is breaching sell-alert status and a collapse may happen at any moment. big5.gov.cn/gate/big5/gov.cn/guowuyuan/2014-12/29/content_2798444.htm big5.gov.cn/gate/big5/gov.cn/zhuanti/201412lkqcf/ How Ebola Roared Back nytimes/2014/12/30/health/how-ebola-roared-back.html?hp&action=click&pgtype=Homepage&module=a-lede-package-region®ion=top-news&WT.nav=top-news&_r=0 https://facebook/photo.php?fbid=783402995052202&set=p.783402995052202&type=1&theater https://translate.google.tw/ wantchinatimes/ theweek/ theweek.co.uk/ online.wsj/asia cn.wsj/big5/index.asp?source=reg-verified-thankyou want-daily/portal.php defense.gov/ chinapost.tw/ https://cia.gov/index.html time/ studentpost.tw/esp_samples/around.asp fbi.gov/ nasa.gov/ washingtonpost/ reuters/ bbc.co.uk/zhongwen/trad international.nytimes/ m.bbc.co.uk/ukchina/simp people.cn/ big5.gov.cn/gate/big5/gov.cn/ big5.cntv.cn/gate/big5/cntv.cn/index.shtml whitehouse.gov/ gov.cn/ https://gov.uk/ qkankan/asia/japan/government/ maihwa.tw/about05.html
