Good morning, The passing of Tom Hinchey yesterday stared me - TopicsExpress

Good morning, The passing of Tom Hinchey yesterday stared me thinking. Not only was Tom a good customer and a good person, he was also a good union man. There are fewer and fewer good union people around today. Tom was the business manager of the local chapter of the ILGWU. If I am not mistaken his retirement coincided with the closing of the local chapter. These jobs, like so much of the mill work in the northeast, moved overseas. Back when I had just started working here I was tending bar for the local’s Christmas party (talk about surreal, a Christmas party for a ladies union that was founded by 11 Jewish men!) when in the midst of their caroling they decided to sing their union’s song. They sang it with more emotion then they displayed when singing the carols. You could tell that the union was a central part of their lives. Tom, your passion will be missed; it was an honor knowing you. Our soup today is Old Fashioned Style Lentil. The specials are Cottage Cheese with Pineapple & Peaches, Baked Hamburg & Macaroni with Tomatoes au Gratin or Grilled Frankfurters with Baked Beans & Vanilla Pudding or Marble Cake. See you on Fort Street,
