Good morning everyone! Today in 1987, Prime Minister Brian - TopicsExpress

Good morning everyone! Today in 1987, Prime Minister Brian Mulroney and the 10 premiers signed the Meech Lake constitutional accord. It called for Quebec to have special status within Canada, plus more powers for the other provinces. But the deal died in June, 1990 when the Manitoba legislature failed to approve it within a three-year time limit. As well, Newfoundland had rescinded its initial approval following a change of government. Also today in 1935, during the Great Depression, about 1,000 unemployed men from Western Canada began their On to Ottawa Trek to confront Prime Minister R.B. Bennett over his governments operation of relief camps and in 1989, the SkyDome opened in Toronto. In 2005, it was renamed the Rogers Centre. Enjoy the day.
