Good morning folks. Let me assume am a white tourist on my first visit to Ghana with my family. Kotoka International Airport, the only gateway should give me an impression of what to expect. The broken escalator, dirty floors, broken carousel, searing heat inside the arrival hall, non functioning insultingly few monitors adds to the confusion of no clear directions. Then comes the harassment and embarrassment of passing through passport control and customs officers with expectations in their demeanour. You eventually grab you luggage with a surgical incision from the knife of a thief on the sides. Lucky you if you have all your items intact. As you make your way out, you struggle to find those signs with arrows that point out which direction to take for fast foods, cafés, restaurants, shops, taxis, buses, trams, trains and hotel shuttle, forget them all. Well those things dont simply exist in this part of the world. Make a mistake and ask of a subway, and they will go, what on earth is that? Never heard of it. The international airport is one miserable place. There are no trains, no trams and no buses from the airport. You must know someone with a private vehicle coming to meet and fetch you or you fall into the hands of those hyena taxis drivers ready to strip you off your last forex for the shortest journey. Assuming no robbers stalk or follow you to take your luggages, you should arrive at your hotel or guest house. Any idea of a quick shower and short stroll to get a feeling of your neighbourhood, to say grab a sandwich and hot coffee? Well, if you are rich enough to be in a luxury hotel, perhaps you will be lucky but dont expect the same quality standards you are used to in the West. A five star hotel in Ghana is not the same as a five star rated hotel in the west.........I shall return
