Good to see the Razorbacks playing well and winning big against a respected team! That said, what really got me pumped up this morning is our cross country kids! They ran this morning in Magnolia, AR and did a super job! We had several young men and women set personal records. Our high school boys finished second to Lake Hamilton, a bigger school and a cross country powerhouse in Arkansas. Our high school girls finished third, but with several running faster than they ever have. Our junior high boys finished second, again to Lake Hamilton. And our junior high girls WON! More important than their performance on the course, is the way they carried themselves yesterday and today. We took them, about 40 of them ranging from 7th to 12th grades, down last night. The first race was at 8:00 AM and wed have needed to leave no later than 3:30 this morning to get there in time. So we decided to take them down Friday night. We stopped and fed them at Cracker Barrel in Bryant, AR last night. The waiter who worked our table told us how impressed he was with their behavior. We got to our hotel last night and I told the manager to call my room if she had any problems. I did not get a call. When I got to the dining room for breakfast, it was already packed with our kids. No need to wake them up. They were up and ready in plenty of time, and on their own. Janice and I were the last ones to leave the dining room. Sitting there after everyone left, I looked around. I was amazed at how clean it was. There was no mess. 40 kids from 7th to 12th grades had just come through there, ate their breakfast, and left NO MESS! When I checked out this morning, the desk clerk said theyd had no problems or complaints with our kids. I knew they were good kids. Several people thought we were crazy to take them all, especially the younger ones. But these kids are AMAZING! They make me proud everywhere we go. At practice. At meets. In restaurants. In hotels. EVERYWHERE! I am so blessed to have this job! Thanks to everyone who had any part in making today possible. To the parents who came with us. To the parents who made the trip to watch them. To the parents who had to stay behind but allowed their kids to come. To Coach McKay who drove the second bus for us. To Steven Otts who carried our tent home to fix the broken supports on it. And especially to the kids, who ran hard, did what they were supposed to do, and proved to everyone who saw them there are great kids out there these days. #blessedtoteach #blessedtorun
