Government passes law about information websites in Belarus: they are now equaled to mass media. Amendments to the law On mass media were approved today in the House of Representatives of Belarus. The amendments will regulate the work of Internet media. According to the Minister of Information, there are about 5 million Internet users in Belarus. Internet is a powerful factor of influence on the population, hence it requires legislative regulation, said the official. The owners of information resources will be oblidged to prevent the use of their information resources to disseminate information, the content of which contradicts the requirements of the law. In case any false information is posted on a website, the resource will have to publish a correction statement within 24 hours and remove the refuted information. Also, the law envisages restriction of access to the website in case it receives twice or more written warnings from the Information Ministry within a year. The proposed changes will become an effective instrument for implementing the state information policy, - said the Minister. #belarus #media #information
