Government should reign on these buses. A couple of months ago,I boarded a Githurai bound bus at Tom Mboya bustop. The blaring noise in the bus was deafening to say the least. I sat near the driver as the bus sped towards Thika superhighway. It was my first time to use one of these colorful Isuzu FRR buses. As we made it past Survey of Kenya, the middle-aged driver who seemed carried by the deafening music released the steering while and clapped his hands to the music as the bus clocked a 120km/h.I was horrified but obviously I didn’t show it as everyone in the bus seemed okay with this daredevil stunt. I knew what he was doing was very risky as at one point in life I was a bus driver of a similar model(Isuzu FRR) and out of experience I was cognizant of the fact that our driver was gambling with the lives as it is harder to control a bus than a lighter vehicle. Never mind it was on a superhighway where vehicles cruise at an astronomical speed. Something told me it was just a matter of time before a fatal accident was to take place if what that driver was doing is the norm in that road. My worst confirmation took place on Thursday evening when a Paradiso bus rammed on a matatu and killed almost ten passengers along the busy highway. This is the high time that something should be done to reign on the dangerous driving exhibited on Thika Superhighway and other highways. The Michuki rules should be enforced to save on lives and restore order. The likes of Pradiso,Zam Zam,Unified Poa,Password and other buses that flout the traffic rules with reckless abandon should be apprehended before more killings take place.
