Great speech by Pete Wishart on the bizarre edifice that is the House of Lords, variously comparing it with chambers in China (for its massive size; over 800 peers), Iran (rights of clerics to sit) and Lesotho (benches filled by patronage). Wishart saves the full blast of his criticism for the cash for peerages brigade which stuffs the Lords benches, contingent upon massive bribes paid greased-up to the three main Westminster parties. If only Westminster could self-examine like this more often.
