Great video, although Id like to see a shoutout to mass transit and tech ideas to solve this rather than solely relying on drivers to stop texting... some people spend over 1.5 hours on their commute to work each day, the temptation is too much, too unrealistic to expect people to willingly cut it out. People still drink and drive at the same rate today than 20 years ago, a bit higher actually. Does this mean the Dont drink and drive campaign failed? Well I guess it just means that we need to follow up the campaign with REAL solutions like alternatives to drinking, etc. Look at smoking. Smoking rate decreased because of higher taxes, smoking being banned in many places, development of patches (treatments to quit), threat of higher insurance costs, banning a wide range of advertising, development of alternatives like vapor and electronic cigs, companies are increasingly banning the sales of cigs, etc. etc. etc. If our communities were more transit orientated, then there would be a real reduction in DUIs and texting deaths. More pressure needs to be put on local governments for better planning, and help our local leaders by publicly criticizing developers and show up to those meetings. We need alternatives and you dont get them unless you fight for them. After all, you cant get a DUI or kill someone texting when youre riding on the train.
