Greetings on Raksha Bandhan,Aug.10 ( Rakhi and Humayun) ( From my poetry book Voice of Heart) ************************************************* Accept my greetings on this pious occasion, which affirms the bonds between brother and sister; Rakhi has had the force to win back the lost kingdom, The world has never seen this example of Indian culture. Let us determine not to celebrate it in a formal way, Let us try to revive the sanctity that gave it the power, To transform ones aggressors into ones protectors, Let us once again make it bloom like a divine flower. ********************************************************** ( Lines 3 and 4 above refer to the historic incident in India when the first Mughal emperor Zaheeruddeen Mohd. Babar returned the conquered kingdom, the moment, the daughter of the defeated king, Princess Karmavati of Chittor tied the rakhee in the hands of his ( Babars) son prince Humayun. It is the history as how Humayun observed the sanctity of this rakhee bond all his life to protect princess Karmavati. In the contemporary times, we saw the rakhee bandhan in U.P. between BJP stalwart Lalji Tondon and BSP Supremo Mayawati during the alliance of their parties but now they are arch rivals.We will be having the functions of Rakhee bandhan when the so-called brothers and sisters even do not know each other,let alone remember the accompanying obligations) ************************************************************************** Humayun and Queen Karmavati:- Queen Karmavati of Chittor had sent a Rakhi to Humayun to protect her from Bahadur Shah. Humayun, then engaged in an expedition against Bengal, turned back to carry out his sacred brotherly duty and tried to protect her but was too late.
