Grief The radio scanner we kept at home blurted out the address of a couple of brothers in my Boy Scout troop. I rode my bike and took a short cut. By the time I reached their home, flames poured from the rooftop. Despite the efforts of our firefighters, it burned to ashes. Other boys in our troop were there then when I arrived. We didnt talk much. We were stunned by the fire and by knowing about the tragedies the brothers had already faced. The brothers, their sisters, and their younger brother all huddled with their grandmother. She had come to live with them after the death of their dad was followed a year later by the death of their mom, both from cancer. Fear of grief stopped me from walking over and talking with the brothers. When the older brother caught my eye, not knowing what to do, I looked down. That was the last I ever saw them. They moved away that night. People clam-up in the face of other peoples grief. We dont know what to say or where to look or how to act, so we maybe tend to avoid those who are mourning. The fact is, there isnt anything we can say or do to stop their grief. Saying and doing arent as important as just standing by their sides. Lets Pray: Dear God, for all those who turn away from the grieving, grant them courage to be the friend they wish they could be. Amen. Heres a Thought: For grief, words cant do what a hand held, a hug given, or cheek kissed can. Please join us on Face Book! youtu.be/ZZGoE9jppfQ
