Gurrong - New treasures in an old land Each year the Boite engages with a creative team to develop a concert with a strong theme reflecting our cosmopolitan community suited to a very large choir. 300 singers from Metropolitan Melbourne and Regional Victoria rehearse for 9 weeks in venues across the state culminating in a grand performance at a major Melbourne venue supported by a line-up of inspiring artists and performers. This year’s concert, which celebrates the Boites 35th birthday, will feature Archie Roach, Shane Howard, Lamine Sonko (Senegal) and Ernie Gruner at the magnificent Hamer Hall, the place where it all began. Gurrong explores 250 years of immigration bringing new ideas, aspirations, stories and especially music to our ancient continent. People have arrived from places of economic or political hardship and strife, seeking security and freedom, in the home of the oldest living cultures on earth. In ‘Gurrong’ we will celebrate in song and story, a bringing together of this richness in all its diversity and beauty - reposted from Archie Roachs page.
