HAPPY BIRTHDAY TO BRUCE SPRINGSTEEN! Born September 23rd 1949 in Long Branch, New Jersey. Growing up, Bruces father had trouble holding down a job. During the sixties Bruces long hair and guitar playing made him a target of his fathers rage. He has said Growing up, there were two things that were unpopular in my house, one was me and one was my guitar. Years later he credited that tension with being a big part of his art and said I gotta thank him for making me the artist I am, because what would I conceivably have written about without him. I would have written happy songs. My parents experiences forged my own. They shared my politics and they alerted me to what is at stake when you are born in the USA. Hes won more awards and accolades that I could even begin to start listing here. Maybe next year. Hes never had a No1 hit single, although Manfred Mann had a No1 with his Blinded By The Light from Bruces first album, Greetings From Asbury Park. Heres his version of that song performed acoustically in 1994.....Enjoy!
