HAPPY KARMA JOHAR JAI JHARKHAND JAI HIND Karma is one of the most popular festivals of Jharkhand celebrated mainly by the Oraon, Baiga, Binjhwari and Majhwar tribes of Jharkhand, Bihar, Chattisgarh and M.P. The name Karma has been derived from the name of the tree Karam. Tribal people go into the forest to collect fruits, flowers and Karam tree branches which signifies the Mother Goddess Karam Devi. Since the tribals have been associated with and dependent on nature: land, forest, fields for their food and living they have been worshipping the Mother Nature since time immemorial. Karam dance is one of the most popular ethnic dances of India. The Karma festival being celebrated today gives us the message to protect and conserve nature. The degradation of environment in the name of development should be replaced by sustainable development. Equal importance and attention should be given to natural environment and the various tribal ethnic groups that have been sharing symbiotic relationship with the nature since ages. We should all vow to conserve nature and environment around us.
