HARVEY TO CLOSE GUN RANGE AFTER YEARS OF COMPLAINTS Harvey - TopicsExpress

HARVEY TO CLOSE GUN RANGE AFTER YEARS OF COMPLAINTS Harvey police will shut down a gun range in the south suburb, after more than five years of complaints from neighbors who fear stray bullets. The gun range has been used by dozens of police departments since the 1990s to train officers. But families in neighboring homes say they frequently find bullet casings that have landed in their yards or against their homes. The city of Harvey is expected to close the range Thursday as a result of those concerns, citing the range for not complying with city rules related to public safety. The Harvey Park District owns the property and leases it to an operator. Under an executive order from the mayor, the range will be closed Thursday - at least until a public hearing on June 6 at 6:30 p.m. Many residents have been lobbying to close the gun range for years. Its not clear if anything happened to make the effort successful this time around.
