HAVE WE FORGOTTEN: LAWAL OJUOLAPE, BERNARD OGEDEMGBE AND THE EXECUTION OF OGEDEMGBE? @Hon Eneh Victor ChigozieAPGA[ interactive forum] If Buhari wins this election, it will be the biggest blow to the foundation of our national democracy. Reason with me; In 1999, Yoruba was considered for president because NADECO, a Yoruba anti Abacha group made Nigeria ungovernable. The group emerged after the annulment of June 12 presidential election. The unity of this country was threatened. The security situation deteriorated. The crimax was the sudden death of Abacha, and the murder of Abiola. To get the country back again, power shifted to south west through Obasanjo. NADECO died a natural death and the Yoruba race was fully back on the national equation. While the nation was getting over the activities of NADECO, the Niger Delta militancy emerged and another agitation started. The economy of Nigeria was put on threat, kidnapping started, the security situation in the region deteriorated. The unity of Nigeria was on the verge of collapse. To ameliorate the situation, Yaradua/Jonathan ticket was considered. The emergence of Jonathan as the vice president and the death of Yaradua brought the activities of Niger Delta militants to a manageable level. Jonathan became president and the once volatile Niger Delta region became peaceful. But as peace was returning to Niger Delta, Boko Haram emerged in the north. Their activities and operation have again put the unity of this country in a precarious situation. The security situation is so bad, the agitation now is for power to return to north as the only panacea to peace in Nigeria. However, we are gradually accepting the use of intimidation, stampede and threat as the only means for any region in Nigeria to take power. This is a very bad precedent. We have unwittingly accede to violence as the only way to get power in Nigeria. If Buhari wins, it expressly becomes an unwritten resolve that any region that wants power must first make this country ungovernable, threaten the unity of the nation with all manner of unconventional blackmail. We must rise up now to put a stop to this ugly trend or watch Nigeria degenerate to a JUNGLE. Lets say NO, and re elect Jonathan. And stop this regional violence as the only way to grab power.
