Mazza: I am appalled by the Tyler Loftus case in which a 22-year-old New Jersey man with serious intellectual/developmental disabilities has been arrested for conduct he has no control over and is being unwisely remanded to a Trenton Psychiatric Hospital for hardened criminals where he most definitely does not belong. Tyler is on the autism spectrum with a bipolar diagnosis. This outrage has occurred because of the atrociously failed policies of the New Jersey Division of Developmental Disabilities that have endangered the lives of the ID/DD population across the State. While utterly failing to put sophisticated and complex services in place within our communities they have implemented dangerously hurtful policies such as Return Home NJ and the irresponsibly absurd closure of vitally important state-run Developmental Centers. Shame on the state DDD for failing the most vulnerable among us. --- RAM
