HERE ARE NIFTY GADGETS FOUND IN MANY 1950S & 60S COAL REGION KITCHENS. Click LIKE if you remember or cooked with a Westinghouse roaster, made popcorn with an antique popcorn maker, owned a snow cone machine, or enjoyed chicken & waffles with an old style waffle iron. All 4 of these items were in my kitchen growing up. Our Westinghouse roaster on a storage cabinet was exactly as the one pictured here. Some great chicken & beef roasts were prepared in that roaster. My parents roaster & cabinet is stored in my canning room & the roaster still works. Popcorn was more difficult to make decades ago. You had to heat up the popper, pour in the oil, then the popcorn, & watch the popping. This whole process took several minutes. The Jiffy Pop stove top popper made that old style popper obsolete in the 1960s. Before the Mister Snow Man snow cone machine, you enjoyed snow cones at block parties, fairs, & amusement parks. The snow cone machine changed that. I think we used liquid from squeeze pops for our snow cones. It was probably a cheaper route to go. Homemade waffles were common at our home growing up--for breakfast & supper. Many of you remember the former Scraffords Restaurant in Hometown was famous for their waffle & chicken dinners in the 30s, 40s, & 50s. Pre-made frozen waffles made in a toaster sent waffle irons to the closet, but many still use them today. Are there any other things you remember in your kitchen growing up?
