HI! Its me Cathy...professional petsitter! As the proud owner of this company I have a story I wish to tell. This week was much more rewarding and trying and emotional then the others. Besides being a very busy week, I was put in charge of a new clients 2 dogs as they left on vacation. One of their dogs had cancer and was nearing the end of his life. It was apparent to all of us that he was in critical condition, but still moving around. I was prepared to do what was necessary in any circumstance. As the days progressed I was paying close attention to the dog with cancer. Sometimes he was difficult to wake in the mornings. Would seem weak. Then later in the day would rally and walk like gangbusters! He was so strong! The days went on like that mostly. One night I came to see them and that little guy was coughing and having trouble breathing and panting. So we went to the ER! Got clearance from the Vet that he was still ok and to watch him closely for 2 signs. Pink gums or excessive breathing of more than 80 breaths per minute. I could tell that the other dog was caring for his friend and monitoring him at each visit. What a sweetie! It was adorable to see the friendship and love that the 2 dogs shared. I would walk them together, but it was clear that the ailing one could not keep up. I could also see and feel in my heart that this dog who had cancer was waiting for his human mommy to come home. He did not want to go yet. Again, he was weak and then strong, surprising me at every turn. I spent extra time on this job, sleeping over (though not hired to do so). I wanted that whatever happened, these people would have a good experience, even if the dog passes. Well on the last day of their vacation, it so happened that this beautiful little doggies body was not going to let him stay here any longer. At 5AM I woke to his coughing and struggling and scooped him up in a blanket and off to the Vet we went. The Vet confirmed the situation and together we took away the pain and sent him to heaven. The owners were well aware of the situation and all that was happening, and I was given proxy over the dog. For me it was an incredible responsibility to be given and I was mindful that each decision was to be made carefully. Between the instructions given by the owners, the Veterinarian and me, we as a team were able to do what was needed in the right time. This little guy was set free of his ailing body with all our LOVE! His spirit LIVES ON!
