HOT WATER & SALT? My elder bros living in Lagos woke me up as early as 2 am this morning to tell me to bath with hot water and salt as a preventive measure for the almighty Ebola virus. Before 6 am same morning, Ive received over 30 calls both from supposed learned individuals and the un-enlightened ones talking about taking bath in the morning with hot water and salt. Lmao! It is only in Nigeria that this kind of madness and ignorance is giving utmost attention and supremacy. While the western world is busy looking for ways to prevent the outbreak of the disease by preventing bodily contact with patients of ebola virus, which is the ONLY source of transmission, our people are busy dancing to the gallary, circulating fake and deadly rumours. Im not disputing the authenticity of hot water and salt as a good preservatives against germs and micro organisms, but just know that after few minutes of taking your bath, the effect of the hot water will definitely wear off. As for the salt? Even a bag of salt can never close over a million skin spores in human body. Therefore, I can authoritatively tell you as a trained microbiologist that even if you take bath with hot water and salt millions of times a day and still have contact with an infected ebola patient, your second name will be sorry because the ebola virus will find your skin a soft target to operate. Avoid bodily contacts with suspected carriers of ebola virus. Wash your hands and take your baths immediately with disinfectants after every contact you have with people. Dont eat meats and things prepared or handled by other people without warming them properly. Ebola virus kills but ignorance kills more.
