HURRAYYYYY!! Today is my birthday and, as with every year that passes, I look up at the sky and say a big ol’ TA VERY MUCHLY to the powers that be (or don’t be *shrug*) for giving me the honour of yet another year! That’s 36 years!! Every one a badge of honour. I look around and can’t quite believe how lucky I’ve been to live so long, so well, so fabulously, surrounded by loving family, wonderful friends, in a democratic country where everyone including women can vote. I’m healthy and living in a country with free health care. I don’t have to fear my neighbour or my husband or my parents or my god…unlike many women in the world I’m not only allowed, but encouraged to educate myself and work, and I’m lucky enough to have my dream job which allows me to live an awesome life. I have the BEST FB friends who not only tolerate, but encourage my constant animal-related offerings (I do love you all for this ;-)). It’s safe to say that I’ve managed to dodge the big hurdles like teenage pregnancy, drug addiction (though if Justin Bieber stays around, that might change…) and poverty. Based on global stats, I’m kind of a phenomenon! So are you! 36 years old is double the age at which 50% of all Niger women (girls) are mothers. 36 years old is double the average age in Gaza. And 36 years old is one year older than the average life expectancy in the UK in the 16th century! Every grey hair is a reward! ‘NEVER REGRET GETTING OLDER; IT IS A PRIVILEGE DENIED TO MANY.’ SO; HAPPY BIRTHDAY MEEEE!!
