Had a few people ask for pictures of my Christmas decor in the new house. The truth? I decorated the porch and thats about it. No lights, the tree is up but not lit or decorated, and we have some poinsettias up and one wooden sign, but thats it. Were trying something different this year, something really hard for me honestly, but so important - seeking simplicity. We didnt go to a u-cut Christmas tree place and get all the picture perfect photos I dreamed up, we didnt go on the polar express train ride, Im not hosting the big holiday open house I was dreaming up, we didnt invest in all the decor that would make this new house the picture of Christmas time perfection, and we MAJORLY reduced Christmas gifts this year to a very small showing compared to what the boys are used to. Will we keep it like this forever? Probably not. But I think we needed one year to remind us that all those must do memories and picture perfect traditions arent what makes this season important. Were going to seek some simpler traditions this year, and hopefully come out of this season rested and refreshed instead of exhausted and drained. Well see how it goes.
