Had a prospective student ask me if I enjoy my job. I always find this an interesting question. It used to be easier talking to prospective soccer players for college teams and the differences between fun and enjoyment associated with playing at a higher level, for instance. My response was something along the lines of ... Do I enjoy fighting lions on a daily basis? (clearly hyperbole, yes I understand) Im not sure I would call it enjoyment, but it is positively stimulating in such a way that the result of those daily interactions has the potential to lead to behavior change with an outcome that can hopefully lead to improving community health and wellness... sometimes,rarely, you stand with your team victorious with expedient progress on an item and sometimes you live to wrestle another day and go back to your office and address your wounds ... albeit there are the spots of consistent enjoyment that occur with interacting with some of the brightest and innovative minds that will shape the future of healthcare ... all interactions lead to improvement even if not immediately.. all interactions lead to a better healthier future for the community... my family, my children, your family, your children, our neighbors ... the daily step across the threshold that may lead to changing the community and allow for change to occur through natural and forced collisions is something that I guess I do enjoy after all ...
