Had to go get some snazzy formal wear for some upcoming weddings - TopicsExpress

Had to go get some snazzy formal wear for some upcoming weddings today. Got some incredible gear at Moores and headed out the door feeling pretty good. As I head out the door, a fellow using a walker stops me. Ive been waiting for a taxi for 45 minutes and I need a ride to the hospital, he says. Normally, in todays world of shysters, I would have come up with some excuse thinking he had some other agenda, but for some reason I instinctively knew the guy was genuine. So I pulled the car up and helped him get his walker into the trunk. Thank God for the new car. I had so much crap in there, the old one might not have held the walker. So I start driving him over to the hospital. He wants to pay me, but I figure I just blew a bunch of coin on a new suit and shoes and another $2 in gas doesnt hurt. He insists. He gives me $10, which I could no longer refuse or I might insult him. Along the way, I find out the guy is fighting cancer and that he had been going through chemo-therapy, and that they recently had to stop chemo because they discovered lesions in his brain. Sounds pretty familiar. I didnt have the heart to tell him that dad lost his battle to the same thing just a few short months ago. Aside from that, the short conversation we had was entirely too easy, as if I knew the guy already. Strange as it may seem, it felt like there was some sort of message in that meeting. I drop him off at the hospital door and help him to his walker, he shakes my hand and thanks me, wishing me many blessings... Blessings that I hope he receives a thousand times more. As he walks away, I realize neither of us bothered finding out the other persons name. It didnt really matter at the time. With or without a name, I will remember that chance meeting for the rest of my life. My thoughts and prayers go out the this man without a name. I hope he wins the battle that so many others dont.
