Happy Birthday today (Oct. 2) to demented & often satirical UK - TopicsExpress

Happy Birthday today (Oct. 2) to demented & often satirical UK singer, songwriter & guitarist John Otway, known for his work both with original partner Wild Willy Barrett & as a solo artist; he has built a sizeable cult audience (most prominently in the late-70s/early-80s) through extensive touring, a surreal sense of humour, a self-deprecating underdog persona & bizarre, geeky daredevil gymnastics; the risk of physical injury is very real at any Otway performance, especially during renditions of songs such as Headbutts; he scored the 1977 UK #27 single Really Free & 2002 UK #7 single Bunsen Burner; his 1990 autobiography, Cor Baby, Thats Really Me (subtitled Rock and Rolls Greatest Failure) was a study in self-deprecation - the sequel I Did It Otway followed in 2010; to celebrate his 60th birthday in 2012, John booked the Odeon Leicester Square to show the documentary of his life, Rock and Rolls Greatest Failure: Otway the Movie - the screening saw cinematic history made with the final scenes of the movie being filmed from the red carpet on the morning of the film…(this clip from UK TVs Old Grey Whistle Test is what first made Johns reputation...watch this one to the end...it remains one of the all-time classic moments of British alternative music!)
