Happy Independence day USA. It should come as no surprise that this celebration is met with mixed emotions by both the black and native American communities, especially for those of us we are veterans of the American military as well it should. But dont think for one minute that because we have not forgotten that painful past, that we are any less dedicated to a successful future for this country. To quote George Santayana, (a Spanish-born American author of the late nineteenth and early twentieth centuries): Those who cannot remember the past are condemned to repeat it. Only by remembering the painful mistakes of our past can we learn from them, move past them and improve who we are individually and as a nation. We have come a long way in terms of equality and inclusiveness since 1776, but we have a long way to go and we can only get there by working together. So happy birthday US of A. Let us all celebrate together, especially those of us who were once disenfranchised by this very nation but are not a part of the great American dream. God Bless America!
