Happy National Sovereignty and Children’s Day! 94 years ago today The Grand National Assembly of Turkey was inaugurated in Ankara by the great leader Mustafa Kemal Atatürk and Turkish people in the midst of the Independence War. The new assembly in Ankara became a symbol of hope for Turkish people who fought the Independence War under extraordinary circumstances. After the victory of Turkish people, the Grand National Assembly of Turkey laid the foundation of a new, secular and modern Turkish Republic. The founder of the Turkish Republic Mustafa Kemal Atatürk dedicated April 23 to children, who are the architects of their country. Since 1929, April 23 is celebrated in Turkey as “National Sovereignty and Children’s Day”, the first ever national holiday for children in the world. On this special occasion, we wish that April 23 will bring peace and happiness to all children in the world.
