Happy Tuesday evening Dragoon families and friends, as previously - TopicsExpress

Happy Tuesday evening Dragoon families and friends, as previously reported the temperatures have steadily risen here into the mid 90’s with lots of sunshine. We have potential for some rain in the forecast tomorrow which may provide some respite, but Delta Company might get a bit soggy out in the field. Alpha Company is finishing up their move the newly refurbished barracks and they will be “picking up” a new company of trainees on Saturday. It won’t be long before we have three senior companies getting ready to graduate with two very junior ones just getting started with their training. It will certainly be a full house around here—at least for a week or two. And now for the training update: Bravo Company (Week 8): The Bulldogs spent the better part of the day today out at Range 12 conducting Buddy Team Live Fires where they moved as two-person teams engaging targets with live ammunition. As one buddy provides covering suppressive fires on targets, the other maneuvers forward by short sprints and rushes, or by crawling on their belly. It is a particularly taxing event this time of year because the trainees have to wear full helmets and body armor in the heat while they do this. It’s a tough event, but one that is very rewarding once they are complete. Charlie Company (Week 1): The Comanches continued on today with lots of classroom instruction learning the fundamentals of soldiering. They will have much more of that this week as they continue to get oriented to Army life. It won’t be until later this week until they actually get to go outside and do some training at a local confidence course. Delta Company (Week 9): The Dawgs are on the second day of their four-day Field Training Exercise. Because of the heat they have done many of their missions “reverse cycle” and conducted them at night when the temperatures were a bit cooler. This is the culminating event of Basic Combat Training and it is one of the last major obstacles standing between them and graduation day. Echo Company (Week 8): The Eagles conducted some “Moral Combat” training today and then knocked out some other administrative tasks. Later on this evening they will head out to the Night Infiltration Course. The Command Sergeant Major and I will join them just after sun down and observe as they negotiate a series of obstacles under combat-like conditions in full kit. I expect it will be a pretty exciting time for most of them. Once again I want to welcome our new families and friends to the page and urge you to check out our “Notes” tab to help answer the many questions that you might have about the training and how to contact your loved ones. Basic Combat Training moves pretty quickly and it can be confusing for the families back home if they have never served—so please use this page as a resource. I hope everyone has a wonderful evening. “By Force and Valor!” Lieutenant Colonel Gries Dragoon 6
