Happy chilly Veterans Day morning... I just wanted to give an update to everyone as to last nights HCSB Meeting. Of interest to most (if you caught the nightly, or morning, news) is the vote to cancel the existing request(s) for qualifications/proposals and seek new ones. This does *not* mean the construction of new schools is off track! In fact, if all goes well, things could run smoother and could result in better delivery and lower overall costs. I also would want to point out that with most of the construction we are talking about completely new schools that will result in new attendance areas, so, delivery and opening wont necessarily coincide; i.e. delivery could be in the spring, but you would not open that school until the following fall due to the fact its student body would be composed of a new attendance area never before utilized. The short of this decision is that, so long as there are no issues with construction and delivery, this should be a non-issue. In other business, the Capital Finance Plan was approved as well as a resolution to move forward with such steps as may be necessary to refinance existing bond issues for interest savings, thus, steps are in motion to fund the new construction and renovations. Additionally, the Board moved forward with the plans to purchase land for the new Socastee Elementary School, discussed College and Career Readiness (SAT, ACT, AP, Grad Rates), and Differentiated Instruction methods. I thank everyone for their support on November 4 and hope that I can be the representative you would have me to be for you and your children on the School Board. Thank you!
