Hasta la vista, Giggsy!! Skilled, Speedy and Sublime with a dash of brashness and flair, Ryan Wilson, a.k.a Ryan Giggs was the embodiment of Manchester United on the football field. His long list of achievements can be summarized in one single sentence “the most decorated British players ever”. His career is littered with moments of his genius, most notably the 1999 FA Semi Final goal at Villa park, that put Manchester United on the way to become the first English Team to win the treble. One of the very few players who started and finished his career at a single club, Ryan Giggs made his first team debut Manchester United in 1991, the year Manchester United came closest to winning the title after 25 agonizing years. He picked up the Young player of the year award for two consecutive years in his first two seasons of his career. He later went to become an integral part of the team, picking up 13 Premier League titles, 4 FA Cups, 2 Champions League Titles and 14 other pieces of Silverware. With his supreme balance and blistering pace, Ryan Giggs rocked the left side of the pitch in the initial years of his career. One of the best ever to pull on the #11 shirt, Ryan adapted his game to suit his age, ending up as one of the play makers on the team. Such adaptability is the hallmark of champions, as Giggs and his longtime friend Scholes have proved to the world in the last decade. Every Manchester United fan knows that the only reason United persisted with the 4-4-2 throughout the 90’s and the 00’s was the presence of Giggs. A list of his right wing counterparts who played and left for United will give a perspective of his contribution to the team. A cool customer who always prefers to twist the knife with cold blooded calculated skill than raw aggression, Giggs managed to not get himself sent off even once in his 24 years of service. Twisting and turning, with a blessed control of ball, Ryan was the terror of the defenses for many years. Manchester United fans (Me and the others) fervently hope that he has the same success as a manager/coach, as he had as a player. On the day his legacy has passed on to Adnan Januzaj, one can only hope that the giant boots he leaves behind motivate the youngster to achieve great heights, because he will always be the bench mark the #11 will be measured against. Just like the #7 of George Best. As it always has been at Manchester United.
