Have you ever seen those winter tire commercials on TV and wondered if the results were true? We thought we would do our own tests to see if they really work… check it out! On a cold November morning (-16 C) we test drove a 2015 Chrysler 200C AWD with the V6 engine and original all-season tires. We conducted two tests: the braking distance and handling. First, we drove the car with the original tires and three hours later, did the same tests with brand new winter tires and the results were “night and day”. At one point, I even questioned if the driver was driving the same way, but he insisted he was (and I believe him). The braking test was run the same distance and the braking distance was measured from the nose of the car at the braking point (traffic cones) to the nose of the car at the final resting place. The handling test was composed of four traffic cones spaced out 16 feet apart. The top speed for the braking test was 42 km/h and 20 km/h for the handling test. At the end of the day, if I werent present doing the filming, I don’t think I would have believed the results myself. My recommendation to everyone that lives in a cold climate for at least 6 months of the year like it is the case here in Calgary (Canada) is to purchase a good set of winter tires. I’ll let you know that they are typically more expensive than All-Season tires, but are worth every penny! Thank you for watching our video!
