He might not always been the easiest horse to work with, and if I had a fiver for every time I’ve threatened to sell him and buy a donkey I’d be a rich man. But to see him down in the woods yesterday – dry run before timber extraction at the weekend - calm and steady, negotiating steep twisting tracks beside sheer drops, fallen trees, low branches, uneven ground, and narrow gateways you’d think twice about taking a pony through, I realise just how far we’ve come. Our progress has been painfully slow compared to most, and our achievements nowhere near as impressive compared to some, but 19 months on I can honestly say I bought the right horse.
